July 15, 2015

The Virginia Maritime Association (VMA) is proud to be a partner in the new state initiative “VITAL”, Virginia International Trade Alliance, announced by Governor Terry McAuliffe on July 15 in Richmond. Speaking about yesterday’s announcement, Governor McAuliffe said, “International trade is key to creating private sector jobs and building a new Virginia economy that is less reliant on our federal government. We are committed to helping Virginia businesses succeed in the international marketplace.”

VITAL is a partnership between the Virginia Maritime Association and the Virginia Economic Development Partnership with goals of creating 14,000 trade-supported jobs and growing Virginia exports by $1.6 billion in over the next 5 years. Other partners include; the Virginia Manufacturers Association, the Northern Virginia Technology Council, the Virginia Chamber of Commerce and nine Virginia Colleges and Universities.

“Promoting trade through Virginia’s ports is central to the mission of the Virginia Maritime Association. Through VITAL we’ll be able to help our member companies increase their international sales and move more goods through our ports. The VITAL initiative is a demonstration of the Commonwealth’s commitment to helping Virginia companies increase their exports and exposure to international markets and we’re pleased to be part of it,” stated Art Moye, Virginia Maritime Association Executive Vice President.

As a VITAL partner, the Virginia Maritime Association will connect its member companies to funding and resources to participate in international trade missions and tailored global market research. VITAL will build upon Virginia’s proven export assistance program, the award-winning Virginia Leaders in Export Trade (VALET) Program. In 2014-2015, Virginia took 176 companies on trade missions across the globe to find customers in new international markets.

The Virginia Maritime Association is honored to be a partner to the Virginia Economic Development Partnership in this initiative.
